Alan Gerber has just been awarded a Vidi grant by the Dutch Research Council (NWO). NWO has awarded 81 experienced researchers Vidi grants worth a total of 800,000 euros. These grants enable the recipients to develop their own innovative line of research and set up their own research group in the coming five years.
A short project description:
Alan will focus on tRNA regulation in tumors, with a focus on brain cancer. tRNAs are small molecules essential for protein synthesis. Researchers study the mechanisms by which cancer cells use these molecules to grow. Understanding these molecular events will help developing novel therapies against cancers.
Alan will be embedded in the Department of Neurosurgery with a co-affiliation at the Department of Clinical Genetics, and within the Neuro-Oncology Research Lab of Cancer Center Amsterdam.
