Every five years, the Society for the Promotion of Nature, Medicine and Surgery awards three Andreas Bonn medals for the best dissertations in the fields it supports.
The Andreas Bonn Medal is intended to honor young researchers at Amsterdam Universities, who have defended their dissertation before their 35th anniversary, of very good quality. The medal is granted on the basis of the quality of scientific research carried out for a promotion at the University of Amsterdam or the VU University Amsterdam. This work must be published in the international professional literature and/or in the form of a dissertation. The promotion must have taken place in the years 2019 to 2023.
The board of the Society for the Promotion of Nature, Medicine and Surgery intends to issue three Andreas Bonn medals during the annual meeting on April 26 2024:
- A medal in the field of mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science
- A medal in the field of medicine, surgery and dentistry
- A medal in the field of life sciences
In combination with the medal, € 1000 is awarded.
How to nominate?
Suitable candidates can be nominated. The nomination must be accompanied by a justification and a pdf of the dissertation. You can submit your nomination until 7 February 2023 to the secretariat of the Society via gngh@uva.nl. For further information about the society and former medal winners, see gngh.nl.
The laureates are expected to give a short lecture about their work of approximately 20 minutes during the annual meeting on April 26 2024 and their promoters that they will express a Laudatio of approximately 5 minutes.
