The AMS Annual Meeting on March 10 was well visited and enjoyed by ca. 200 members. Key note speaker David Mann presented a new system of classification for judo that has been developed at VU and has been implemented for international competition in preparation for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Frank P. Luyten of KU Leuven, held a lecture entitled: Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering: Towards a Functional Living Joint Replacement. The parallel sessions were well reviewed, there was a good mix of posters & key notes. The program talks were interesting.

Awards

The Outstanding Paper Award was presented to Liam Paget for the publication Effect of Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections vs Placebo on Ankle Symptoms and Function in Patients With Ankle 2021; 326(16):1595-1605. The Societal Outreach Award, was handed to Harald Thune Jørstad for the project named COMMIT: COvid -19 Myocardial Manifestations in Intensive exercise and Top -level sports. He established the COMMIT subcohort to extensively investigate potential myocardial effects of the coronavirus in elite athletes. And last but not least, there were the Poster Awards. Joep Suskens won the Audience Award, for the poster: What is the secret behind the successful Nordic hamstring exercise? In the category BASIC science the poster prize went to: Hadi Seddiqi of ACTA for the research: Inlet flow rate of perfusion bioreactors affects fluid flow dynamics, but not oxygen concentration in 3D-printed scaffolds for bone tissue engineering. In the category Clinical Science the Poster Prize was given to Vivian Wu: A 10-year clinical and radiological follow-up of patients undergoing maxillary sinus floor elevation using adipose stem cells.  There were 40 participants online. Some foreign PhD candidates followed the meeting online, and thus became acquainted with the institute. We hope to see you all again next year!
