Proactive Palliative Care
Focus of research
An early start of palliative care improves the quality of life for patients with advanced progressive illnes or frailty. Early palliative care is proactive, addressing current needs and anticipates future ones. Although proactive palliative care is preferable, most palliative care remains reactive. Late inititation of palliative care reduces its potential benefits for both patients and carers. To support the early identification of patients with palliative care needs, and thereby improve palliative care in general practice, we will develop a two-step search strategy in our study. This search strategy will help general practicioners (GPs) and primary care nurses (PCNs) to early identify patients who may benefit from palliative care.
