Focus of research

My research line focuses on providing appropriate care for people with long-term care needs in their final years of life. Our target group mainly resides in nursing homes and may experience cognitive and/or physical problems, loss of autonomy, and possibly reduced decision-making capacity. We investigate how daily care, treatment, and decision-making can best be tailored to the wishes and needs of this vulnerable group. Our aim is to improve their quality of life and to offer practical guidance to involved healthcare professionals and family members, enabling them to provide optimal support.

Central themes include advance care planning, decision-making in the final stages of life, decision making with people with dementia, challenging behavior and appropriate medication use.
