Focus of research
In my research group we investigate the critical processes of placental development during pregnancy. This includes studying human model systems such as trophoblast stem cells, cell lines, organoids, and placental explants to understand normal development in the first trimester and conditions leading to placental dysfunction, such as pre-eclampsia and fetal growth restriction.
The use of trophoblast stem cells and organoids offers powerful tools for advancing our understanding of placental biology and pregnancy complications, potentially leading to new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
