Focus of research
My research topic is the use of blood transfusion products in preterm infants in neonatal intensive care units. I perform national and international studies, including randomized trials, cohort studies and surveys, co-founded an international Neonatal Transfusion research Network, and collaborate with translational researchers to unravel transfusion-related harm.
More generally, my aim is to provide insight into complexity and uncertainty in medical research. As a University of Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Studies fellow (2024) I explored how complexity science can improve medical research, and help us optimize the translation of evidence into practice. I am currently setting up a new research line to put these ideas into practice.
