Palliative care for the homeless is often provided late or not at all. Evaluating a consultation intervention between palliative care experts and shelter staff on process and added value.

Professionals in both palliative care and shelter care are often insufficiently equipped to provide this complex palliative care. In phase 1 of this project, we explored experiences, barriers and facilitators regarding palliative care for this population, and found that a consultation intervention between palliative care experts and shelter staff would benefit to good quality palliative care for the homeless.

In phase 2, we aim to implement this consultation intervention in three regions and evaluate this intervention on process and added value. Outcomes are expected in the 2nd half of 2021.

The intervention is executed in close collaboration with Hospice Kuria, CVD Havenzicht, Salvation Army NL, HVO Querido and Erasmus MC. And funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development ('ZonMw').
