Hanna Willems is a clinical geriatrician at Amsterdam UMC, whose aim is to improve the quality of life of older adults with a fractures.
Hanna Willems has been given a €230.000 grant from 'Leading the Change' for the TRUST study. TRUST stands for Time and Room for Dying and Transition (Tijd en RUimte voor Sterven en Transitie) and aims to use (major) elective treatments, such as abdominal surgery and chemotherapy, in the final phase of life, only if it adds value for the patient.
Through data research in the CBS database (Statistics Netherlands) the study will go through which elective surgery and major treatments are performed on elderly people in the final 3 months of life. Once it is known which treatments are still being performed in the final life phase, the researchers will discuss with physicians if this can be improved.
