Focus of research
My research focus is on physical activity, exercise and nutrition in chronic diseases. Primary target groups include slowly progressive neuromuscular diseases and critically ill patients.
It is my ambition to change practice by bringing scientific evidence to the rehabilitation field. I try to achieve this by linking fundamental knowledge on human movement sciences and clinical practice.
Together with my research team, we aim to preserve and improve physical functioning and therewith self-management, physical and mental well-being of people with chronic disabilities, by means of physical activity, exercise and nutrition. In our research projects, we further develop and evaluate exercise and nutrition programs, through better understanding of underlying working mechanisms. In addition we conduct research on (international) implementation of succesful exercise and nutrition programs.
