It can be difficult to involve people with vulnerabilities in (medical) scientific research or practice-oriented research. This much should be clear when you read the messages below. This new SIG focuses on the theme of vulnerability when conducting research. How can you, as a researcher - within APH Quality of Care - take the theme of vulnerability into account during all phases of your research (not just when selecting participants)? And also do justice to the knowledge and skills of the people your research focuses on?
This starts when you write your research application. But it also plays a role in collecting data, analyzing data and writing reports and/or articles. Do you also take vulnerability, power relations, social justice and (human) rights into account?

What are we going to do?
- Three vraag-maar-raak sessies: October 9, 12-1:30 PM (with lunch, location: Leidseplein hall, Topwerkplein, VUmc outpatient clinic), November 27, 15-16:30 PM (online), and February 5, 12-1:30 PM with the aim of making an inventory of your questions. Substantive questions about, for example, health law and all other questions surrounding vulnerability when conducting research are welcome (preferably based on a case or example from your own research).
- Three substantive lectures: October 30 from 1:30-3:00 PM a lecture by Petra Verdonk on vulnerability and intersectionality, in December 11th 2023, a lecture by Christine Dedding on involving vulnerable people in research, in March 11th 2024 a lecture by Vivianne Dörenberg and Eva Asscher on legal-ethical principles for dealing with vulnerability in research (and policy in healthcare).
- A final lecture/webinar, in Monday 13th May 2024, on the benefits and needs of researchers by Brenda Frederiks.
Will we see you on Monday afternoon, October 9 at 12:00 at the Leidseplein hall, VUmc?
Further information about the locations on the other dates will follow.
