The ENIGI study is designed to investigate the effects and side-effects of hormonal treatment in trans people. By performing a multicenter study, a larger study population could be achieved and results were more generalizable.

The European Network for the Investigation of Gender Incongruence (ENIGI) is a prospective, observational, longitudinal, multicenter study.

To date, participating gender clinics include Ghent University Hospital, Belgium; VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands; Florence University Hospital, Italy; Rikshospitalet in Oslo, Norway; and Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, Israel. Nowadays, the ENIGI study is divided into ENIGI psychology part and ENIGI endocrinology part.

The first participant for the ENIGI Endocrinology study was included in Ghent in 2010. Measurements are performed at baseline (start of hormonal treatment), during the first year (three months, six months, twelve months), after two, three, and five years.
