PSA/113 conducted research into 428 recent suicide cases in the Netherlands integrated with themes reported in 64 interviews during the period 2020–2024. This extensive study, carried out using a psychosocial autopsy approach, provides valuable insights into the lives and circumstances of people who died by suicide. The psychosocial autopsy aims to learn from the experiences of bereaved relatives to improve suicide prevention efforts in the Netherlands.
The mixed-methods approach of comprehensive questionnaires and in-depth interviews offers important insights for suicide prevention strategies into the underlying factors and circumstances leading up to suicide.
