    Recap Amsterdam Neuroscience Annual Meeting 2026 on The Future of Cognition On January 16, the 10th edition of the Amsterdam Neuroscience Annual Meeting took place, with this year’s theme “The Future of Cognition – Technology and the Human Brain.” More than 500 participants gathered at the RAI for the annual get-together of neuroscientists in Amsterdam. The day was opened by co-director Guus Smit, who emphasized the crucial role of technological innovation in advancing neuroscientific research and deepening our understanding of human cognition.

    Researching the effect of air pollution on renal aging and increased cardiovascular risk in São Paulo with the ACS work visit grant Last year the ACS work visit grant was awarded for the first time. The first awardee was Jonathan Overeem, who went to the university of São Paulo in Brazil to research the effects of air pollution on kidney health. Here he used the unique facilities to investigate how exposure to particulate matter (PM2.5) accelerates renal aging and increases cardiovascular risk.

    From D25 to Nirsevimab: A Dutch Discovery that Changed Infant Health Worldwide In 2007, a breakthrough in respiratory medicine was made in Amsterdam. Prof. Hergen Spits and his team, isolated a potent antibody, D25, from a single immune cell of a Dutch blood donor. This antibody targeted the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a common cold virus that poses a serious threat to infants. Today, its optimized successor, nirsevimab, is part of the national immunization program, preventing thousands of hospitalizations each year in the Netherlands and beyond.
