      Other centralised research support services

      • Kenniscentrum Geneesmiddelenonderzoek
The 'Kenniscentrum Geneesmiddelenonderzoek' provides comprehensive support for drug research. Experienced pharmacists with knowledge of current legislation (GCP, GMP) and diverse therapeutic areas assist with both industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated trials. Since investigator-initiated research involving medicinal products is often complex and time-consuming, it is recommended to register your research or consult with our hospital pharmacist in the early stages of your project. The 'Kenniscentrum Geneesmiddelenonderzoek' offers regulatory advice, guidance on the preparation, storage, and distribution of medicinal products, and holds a manufacturer’s license, which is mandatory for product preparation, packaging, labeling, or importing. Additionally, it has an exemption for using opiates in scientific research. Important: agreements between the manufacturer and hospital pharmacy must be documented in a separate pharmacist’s agreement, which can be appended to the Clinical Trial Agreement.

      • Research Imaging Core Center / ricc@amsterdamumc.nl
If your research involves imaging techniques (e.g. x-rays, ultrasound, CT scans, MRI or nuclear medicine imaging) the Research Imaging Core Center (RICC) can provide the necessary support. Request should be submitted via email to receive a link to a registration form. The RICC assesses whether there is sufficient capacity for the requested imaging services, provides a cost quotation, and makes arrangements for preparation, implementation and data transfer related to your study.

      • Central Research Laboratory / CRL-VUmc@amsterdamumc.nl or CRL-AMC@amsterdamumc.nl
The Central Research Laboratory (CRL) provides support for patient-related and experimental research, including laboratory animal research. The CRL also takes care of shipping provisions for patient care and the storage of materials. Researchers can request support by sending an email to the trail coordinator and together they will fill out an application form.

      • Amsterdam UMC Biobank / contact form
For all biobanking activities, including the initiation of new biobanks, management of historical collections, and issuance of materials from existing cohorts, it is recommended to consult the Amsterdam UMC Biobank at an early stage. The process also involves obtaining approval from the Commissie Toetsing Biobanken (CTB), after which sample and data collection can start. Pre-analytic services are provided by specialized laboratories based on protocols harmonized under the auspices of Health-RI. Researchers can access key information on biobank collections at Amsterdam UMC through the catalog of BBMRI.nl, which facilitates standardized and transparent sample requests.

This research ranges from immunohistochemistry to genomics, artificial intelligence, and computational pathology. The PBR coordinates the collection, management, processing, an distribution of (anonymized) biospecimens and/or pathology data for scientific research. It also strives to provide service to researchers for approval from the CTB.
