Amsterdam UMC has a large art collection and also regularly gives art assignments with which it distinguishes itself. The aim is to create a pleasant environment with the right art in the right place. Recently, artist Elspeth Diederix collaborated with hospital pharmacist and AGEM researcher Reinier van Hest on 'Flowerfields': experience the unique and special stories of eight flowers and their medicinal qualities; they tell their story here.
The flowers are part of an art assignment for the lounges at the nursing wards in Amsterdam UMC, location AMC. Each photographic landscape is a special eye-catcher, each time highlighting two flowers, which have to do with the medical specialty of the nursing ward. Hospital pharmacist and AGEM researcher Reinier van Hest helped with the selection of those plants. Elspeth then grew the selected varieties herself in her Miracle Garden in Amsterdam’s Erasmus Park.
The website is intended for everyone – including those who are in bed – to be able to enjoy the Flowerfields. The bilingual site guides you through the Flowerfields and tells the versatile background of the featured plants.
