On Thursday 22 October 2026, Amsterdam UMC will host the Valorisation Festival for the second time. This inspiring day of exchange and in-depth discussion will centre on valorisation: the translation of academic knowledge into societal value. APH researchers Judith Jelsma, Annet Kleiboer and Astrid de Wind will present their research initiatives at the valorisation market. Curious to hear more about how they are making societal impact? Read on to learn more about their projects, and feel welcome to visit them at the market.

Lifestyle front office

APH researcher Judith Jelsma (Assistant Professor at Department of Public and Occupational Health, Amsterdam UMC), will showcase the lifestyle front office (in Dutch: Leefstijlloket). The lifestyle front office at Amsterdam UMC motivates patients to make lifestyle changes , in the areas of physical activity, nutrition, smoking, alcohol, sleep and stress. It further connects patients to appropriate community-based lifestyle interventions in people's own living environments, with the aim to support initial behavioural change and maintenance.

"When research adds value to practice, I believe it is important that the results remain in place after the project ends. With the lifestyle office, that is exactly what we have achieved."
Judith Jelsma

Accessible interventions

APH researcher Annet Kleiboer (Professor at Department of Clinical, Neuro, and Developmental Psychology, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), will introduce visitors to RECONNECTED. The project develops and tests accessible, low-threshold digital interventions to strengthen resilience, mental health skills and social connectedness in vulnerable communities across different vulnerable populations (youth, those with low socio-economic status, migrants, and older adults) in nine European countries.

"When developing interventions, we think about impact from day one: who is it intended for, what do these people need, and where should the end product or method ultimately find its way?"
Annet Kleiboer

Academic workplace – Building together on healthier working lives

Together with the team of the academic workplace, APH researcher Astrid de Wind (Assistant Professor at Department of Public and Occupational Health, Amsterdam UMC), will present the academic workplace. The academic workplace brings together Amsterdam UMC and occupational health service provider HumanTotalCare to translate practice-based data into scientific insights for healthier and more sustainable working. Through research, innovation and knowledge exchange, the workplace develops data-driven solutions for prevention, sickness absence guidance and sustainable participation in work.

"What connects us is our shared goal: creating impact for the health of the working population of the Netherlands. For me, that means listening to practice, explaining what science can offer, and building on it together."
Astrid de Wind
