Focus of research
I am interested in the mechanism that modulate contraction and especially relaxation. Disease such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (the most common inherited cardiomyopathy) and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction are characterized by impaired relaxation. The molecular pathways that control relaxation are incompletely understoond and I am to gain a better understanding of them. The aim is to translate these findings to human disease. I am currently undertaking compound screenings to find compounds and pathways that speed up relaxation.
My main techniques include: cardiomyocyte contraction/relaxation, Ca2+-transients, adult cardiomyocytes, high-throughput measurements of contraction, proteomics, protein analysis
