Focus of research

Menno Maris is a PhD candidate in the Department of Ethics, Law, and Humanities at Amsterdam UMC. He obtained an MSc in Medical Anthropology & Sociology from the University of Amsterdam and has a particular interest in Science and Technology Studies (STS) and the ethics of technology.

He is engaged in interdisciplinary research collaborations focusing on the ethical development and implementation of AI-driven technologies in healthcare. His work examines ethical considerations surrounding the implementation of AI-based prediction models in clinical practice, incorporating perspectives from both patients and healthcare professionals through qualitative research methods.

Menno is involved in multiple research consortia, including LEAPfROG and the European Horizon project AIOLIA. Within LEAPfROG, his research focuses on the ethical implications of using electronic health record data for AI development, particularly in the context of pharmacotherapy. In AIOLIA, he works at the intersection of ethics, policy, and practice, collaborating with industry and other stakeholders to translate AI ethics principles into concrete guidelines and training for real-world applications.
