Specialization
As a clinical anesthesiologist-intensivist, I combine daily perioperative and critical-care practice with an academic research career focused on postoperative outcomes after high risk surgery, including cardiac and major oncological surgery. This clinical work directly fuels and grounds my research: bedside experience with vulnerable and frail patients drives my focus on identifying and validating perioperative biomarkers and biological age-phenotypes as objective indicators of physiological reserve. Intensive perioperative and critical care monitoring enables high-frequency, real time correlation between these biomarkers and clinical trajectories. My aim is to translate these insights into personalized perioperative risk assessment and targeted interventions, supporting multidisciplinary, shared decision making. prehabilitation and value-based perioperatiev care for vulnerable surgical patients.
Focus of research
My research focusses on perioperative medicine in high-risk surgical patients, particularly the growing population of older and frail individuals. My work centers on improving patient selection, risk stratification, and outcomes through the integration of clinical epidemiology, biomarker research, and multidisciplinary care models. I lead and contribute to initiatives such as the Anesthesia Geriatric Evaluation (AGE) and perioperative biobank programs (BIGPROMISE).
