Cross-institute Synergy Grant Meet&Greet: Connecting Researchers Across Amsterdam UMC Research InstitutesTo kick off the AI&I Cross-Institute Synergy Grant call, researchers from five Amsterdam UMC research institutes gathered for a networking event at Hotel CASA in Amsterdam on the 15th of June. The meeting was organised to spark new collaborations across institutes. Researchers affiliated with AI&I, ACS, AGEM, AMS, and APH came together for an afternoon of introductions, idea-sharing, and networking, followed by a walking dinner that further sparked new collaborations and project ideas.
Breakthrough trial offers first hope for children with Vanishing White Matter diseaseA team of researchers from the Amsterdam Leukodystrophy Center at Amsterdam UMC, led by Prof. Marjo van der Knaap, has published the first clinical evidence that the drug guanabenz may alter the course of vanishing white matter disease (VWM), a devastating childhood neurodegenerative disorder for which no effective treatment previously existed. The findings from the neuroscientists of this phase 1/2 trial have now been published in The Lancet Neurology.
