From Research to Reality: Developing New Therapeutic Strategies for Rare DiseasesThe 28th of February is Rare Disease Day, an important day to raise awareness for patients, families, and caregivers affected by rare diseases. A disease is considered rare when it affects fewer than 1 in 2000 people. But added up, worldwide, more than 300 million people have a rare disease, and over 70% of them are genetic in origin. Despite their prevalence, finding effective treatments remains a challenge.
Vici grant for an AGEM researcherThe Dutch Research Council (NWO) has awarded Vici grants to promising researchers from across all scientific disciplines, including an AGEM researcher. This year, 39 distinguished scientists have been awarded this NWO grant, including 1 AGEM esearcher, selected from a total of 384 applications. Each researcher is awarded a maximum of 1.5 million euros. They have been awarded this Vici grant to carry out an innovative research project over the next five years.
