Focus of research
Lidewij Henneman is professor of Patient Perspectives on Genetics at the department of Human Genetics, Amsterdam UMC. She is head of the research section Community Genetics and Public Health Genomics.
She is member of the Health Council Committee Screening in Pregnancy and at Birth, and member of the RIVM Program Committee on Prenatal Screening. She is also member of the Amsterdam UMC Committee for Talent and Appointments.
Areas of interest include preconception carrier screening, newborn genomic sequencing, prenatal screening, and cardiovascular genetic screening. She collaborates with patient organizations (including VSOP), healthcare professionals, and national and international stakeholders to inform policy and improve care. Her work aims to ensure that genomic advances are translated into ethical, evidence-based healthcare practice and policy.
Project involvement includes PROGRESS-HCD consortium, PRESAGE consortium (DNA Dialogen), IMITAS, CRADLE. She was board member of the Dutch non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT) Consortium (TRIDENT studies), receiving the ZonMw Parel in 2023 for implementation of NIPT in the Netherlands. She won the Societal Impact Award 2016 (topic NIPT), and received the Dutch Public Health Award for her PhD thesis on Preconceptional cystic fibrosis carrier screening.
She published over 200 scientific articles (H-index 40), enjoys teaching and completed supervision of 19 PhD trajectories.
