Our values guide how we work, collaborate, and support cohort research.

Diversity & Inclusion

We believe that diversity is essential to health research.

Diversity & Inclusion

People differ in their backgrounds, experiences, identities, abilities, and health needs. Understanding these differences is therefore crucial to understanding health and disease, addressing health inequalities, and developing healthcare that works for everyone.

Amsterdam Cohort Hub brings together a diverse range of population-based and patient cohorts, reflecting different communities, life stages, health conditions, and lived experiences that represent the greater Amsterdam region. For example, the HELIUS study investigates health and healthcare among individuals from different migration backgrounds, helping researchers understand and address health inequalities. The Netherlands Autism Register follows individuals with autism over time, providing insights into their lived experiences, needs, and quality of life.

By connecting these complementary cohorts, we aim to broaden the perspectives represented in health research, uncover differences that might otherwise remain overlooked, and generate knowledge that is relevant to the Amsterdam region.

We believe that inclusive research starts with recognizing and respecting individual differences, valuing the contributions of participants (i.e., participatory research), and involving people with lived experience wherever possible. Through collaboration, responsible data use, and a commitment to equitable research, our values are built on helping build a future in which everyone can benefit from advances in health research, and everyone’s voice is heard.
