Dr. Fox is a Professor in the Department of Psychology and a Core Scientist in Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Systems at the National Biomedical Research Institute at the University of California Davis, USA. The Fox lab leverages cross-species research to understand the neurobiology of anxiety using a translational research approach. He will present new work that leverages a computational framework to move beyond narrative anxiety models in understanding the neurobiology of anxiety. Building on experiments in humans and nonhuman animals this work provides new insights into the role of the extended amygdala in fear and anxiety, and forms the foundation of a new theoretical perspective for what makes us anxious. This work will be complemented by ongoing work aiming to identify novel cellular pathways that could serve as the foundation for new treatments for those suffering from anxiety related disorders.
