While you are having lunch one of the Alzheimer Center experts will speak about the newest insights regarding a specific topic. This time Lianne Reus will give a lecture on "Turning genes on and off: the role of epigenetics in dementia".

Epigenetics is a relatively new field of research that aims to investigate how some genes can be turned on or off, without altering the DNA sequence itself. It focuses on small chemical changes on or around genetic material, that influence how active certain genes are. These changes are related to age, one of the biggest risk factors in dementia, but also to environment, lifestyle and disease. As an important link between genetics and environment, epigenetics is important for understanding complex brain diseases, such as dementia.
