Drug development for brain disorders remains a huge challenge. At Neurospector, researchers of Amsterdam Neuroscience are at the forefront of drug development through cutting-edge research by combining predictive human neuron disease models with advanced read-outs of neuronal functioning. The Neurospector platform bridges the gap between molecular targets and neuronal function, enabling data-driven evaluation of therapeutic efficacy in human-relevant systems. The mission is to harness the power of translational neuroscience to test new treatments for brain disorders and improve the quality of life for millions worldwide.

With over 25 years of expertise in neuronal function and disease mechanisms, Neurospector provides mechanistic insight into disease pathology and enables quantitative evaluation of compound effects in human-relevant in vitro systems. The platform combines predictive patient-derived neuron models with scalable, high-content technologies to assess more than 90 functional parameters of neuronal activity. Neurospector works across a broad spectrum of neurological conditions, including neurodevelopmental disorders, neurodegenerative disorders, and motor neuron disease, supporting both fundamental discovery and therapeutic innovation.

Interface of academia and industry

As one of the first Amsterdam Neuroscience initiatives fully dedicated to valorization, Neurospector operates at the interface of academia and industry. The extensively characterized disease models allow for rapid and reliable evaluation of novel therapeutic strategies, supporting translational research and preclinical decision-making.

Neurospector contributes to IND-enabling data packages for biotech and pharmaceutical partners worldwide, thereby facilitating the development of new treatments for patients with neurological disorders. In parallel, the team supports academic investigators to transform early-stage discoveries into translational opportunities through model development, validation and upscaling, as well as proof-of-concept and mechanism-of-action studies.

Through this integrated approach, Neurospector strengthens valorization by combining scientific excellence with entrepreneurship and strategic partnerships, with a clear focus on improving patient outcomes.

Automated pipeline for functional evaluation of compound efficacy in Human iNeurons at Neurospector.

With over two decades of expertise in synapse biology and neuronal communication, the Neurospector team specializes in quantifying how human neurons function in both physiological and pathological contexts. The multidimensional platform integrates advanced human in vitro neuron models, including patient‑derived iPSC neurons, with a comprehensive suite of high‑resolution functional assays.

Using live‑cell imaging, single cell and high-density electrophysiology, molecular profiling, and customizable analytical workflows, Neurospector quantifies more than 90 functional parameters across network, single‑cell, and synaptic levels. This multidimensional functional profiling enables precise characterization of disease‑associated phenotypes and quantitative assessment of compound‑induced functional rescue.

The automated yet fully adaptable evaluation pipeline ensures reproducible, high‑content datasets while allowing tailored assay design to meet specific project goals. By integrating mechanistic insight with scalable functional screening, our platform supports data-driven go/no-go decisions and accelerates the discovery and development of effective therapies for neurological disorders. Unlike traditional endpoint assays, the Neurospector platform captures dynamic neuronal function in real time, providing predictive readouts of therapeutic efficacy.
