As of March 2026, prof. dr. Ingeborg Brouwer is appointed vice director of APH, succeeding dr. Frank van Leth. With her arrival, we also announce the departure of dr. Frank van Leth as vice director. We would like to thank Frank for his 4.5 years of dedicated efforts in strengthening and co-leading our research institute. Together with APH director prof. dr. Cécile Boot and vice director dr. Jeroen Lakerveld, prof. dr. Ingeborg Brouwer will lead the research institute in the coming years.

Ingeborg Brouwer is professor of Nutrition for Healthy Living at the department of Health Sciences at VU University Amsterdam. Her research focuses on the effects of nutrition on health and the environment.

Ingeborg Brouwer studied nutritional science at Wageningen University and obtained her PhD in Medical Sciences at the Catholic University of Nijmegen in 1999. She worked as a postdoctoral researcher and project leader at the Wageningen Centre for Food Sciences, where she led a project on ‘N-3 fatty acids and cardiac arrhythmias’. She also served as project leader for the METAHEART project, which was part of the EU SEAFOODplus project.

In 2006, she became an Assistant Professor, and in 2010, an Associate Professor at the department of Health Sciences at VU University Amsterdam. She co-coordinated and managed two large EU consortia, MooDFOOD and PROMISS, and supervised several PhD students. Between 2013 and 2016, she served as an external advisor to the WHO Nutrition Guidance Advisory Group (NUGAG) Subgroup on Diet and Health, particularly due to her expertise in trans fatty acids.

In 2014, she was appointed professor of Nutrition for Healthy Living at the department of Health Sciences at VU University Amsterdam. Since 2019, she has been head of the department.
