Mentoring program
How to improve my CV? How to keep a good work/life balance? How do I know if I am suited for academia? What other options are there beyond an academic career? As part of the mentoring program you can provide and receive advice, support and guidance on work-related issues to researchers across all Amsterdam Research Institutes at different stages of their career.
Postdocs can sign up as mentees to someone further along in their academic career to discuss matters related to career development. At the same time postdocs can be a mentor to PhD candidates to share their acquired insights.. After matching, mentees are encouraged to contact their mentor to plan their one-to-one meeting. Mentoring meetings take place 4-6 times per academic year.
Researchers can sign up in June-September. Matches will be communicated beginning of November. Participants can attend the kick-off event in November 2024.
Registration is closed for 2024.

With this cross mentoring pilot program, Amsterdam UMC wants to give employees with a bicultural background extra support in advancing to higher positions, by pairing them with an enthusiastic mentor. In the course of six months, mentors and mentees will discuss with each other to learn from each other about inclusive leadership, and new perspectives on talent. Moreover the pilot can help us to gain insight into factors and preconditions that promote progression of employees with a bicultural background into higher job positions within Amsterdam UMC.
The program starts in May.Participation in the program will be determined on a first come, first served basis. Prior to the matching an overview of the mentors’ profiles will be prepared so mentees can indicate which mentors would have their preference for matching.

The talent mentoring program of the UvA provides a unique opportunity for mentees to reflect on their career choices with a mentor who can draw on extensive experience and is also open to Amsterdam UMC. As a mentee, you can discuss dilemmas and questions about working in our academic environment with your mentor. Mentors are invited to share their experience and knowledge with a (junior) colleague from a different faculty or service within the UvA and Amsterdam UMC.
Note: The UvA mentoring programme actively supports groups who are underrepresented in higher academic and support staff positions (i.e. women and people from a migrant background) to further their career development. If more people apply than there are places available, individuals from these groups will be given priority when registering. As a mentor, you’ll help a colleague, as well as the university and UMC in their ambition to support groups who are underrepresented in higher positions.
Subscription and planning: Until September 17. After the kick-off event on October 19th, mentors and mentees will meet in 5-6 conversations between October 2023-June 2024.
